I am delighted to have been a participant in the British Council's Language for Resilience Award project, "Voices Across Worlds: Bridging Cultures through Performing Personal Narratives." As the inaugural project of its kind in Cameroon, this initiative provided a unique platform for me to explore storytelling, performance, and cross-cultural understanding.
Through virtual workshops and collaborative performances, I had the opportunity to develop my storytelling skills, gain confidence in public speaking, and connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
One of the most memorable moments was witnessing our project Coordinators, Madam Anestin Lum Chi, and Madam NNANE NTUBE, join forces with participants from other countries to create a truly inspiring collaborative performance. Their shared passion for storytelling and their ability to connect with the audience on a deep emotional level was a testament to the power of art to transcend cultural boundaries.
This project has also allowed me to delve into my narrative, exploring themes of resilience and overcoming challenges. By sharing my experiences and learning from others, I gained a deeper appreciation for different cultures and perspectives. These newly acquired skills have proven invaluable, as evidenced by my recent achievement of second runner-up in the OD@10 Essay Writing competition.
One of the most impactful aspects of my participation was the opportunity to write the story "Echoes of Fear: My Journey through the Anglophone Crisis." This narrative allowed me to process my personal experiences and contribute to a broader understanding of the challenges faced by many in the regions of Buea and Bamenda, Cameroon.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our project Coordinators for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the project. Despite facing network challenges, their dedication and commitment were instrumental to our success. Additionally, I am grateful to Open Dreams Educational NGO for providing us with the necessary resources, such as laptops, to facilitate our participation.
I am also fortunate to have had the opportunity to connect with and strengthen my bonds with Open Dreams Country Director, James Akaba, Fulbright Scholar, NTETA PHILIP NFON, and PhD Commonwealth Scholar Dr. Iya Maliki. These interactions have been invaluable in expanding my professional network and gaining insights from experienced individuals in the field.
The "Voices Across Worlds" project has been an unforgettable experience that has equipped me with invaluable skills that will undoubtedly benefit me throughout my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this transformative initiative.
