Reflecting on AVIVA WEEK 2024 | Ninying Maurine

This year’s AVIVA WEEK 2024 has been a remarkable experience, centered around the vital theme: Access to Quality Care for Every Child.

The Aviva Week Program, organized annually by Open Dreams in memory of Aviva Lilia Bernardo Kullberg, honors the daughter of Cristina & Hans Kullberg, co-founders of Open Dreams.

As a midwife, I had the privilege of working with Open Dreams for the first time, focusing on a course that is close to my heart— supporting children born with congenital abnormalities.

Throughout this period, I witnessed the profound impact that access to quality care can have on families navigating the complexities of congenital conditions.

It was inspiring to collaborate with dedicated professionals such as Dr. Toukam Danielle, Dr.Karen Essiane Davide, and other Team members who share a common goal: ensuring that every child receives the care they deserve, regardless of their circumstances.

The events and workshops held during the AVIVA Week, highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, intervention, and ongoing support for these children and their families.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this Celebration was connecting with families and hearing their stories. Their resilience and hope serve as a powerful reminder of why our work is so important. Together, we explored ways to raise awareness and promote advocacy for better healthcare resources and support systems.

United for a cause - Every child deserves a chance to thrive

I am incredibly grateful to OPEN DREAMS for the opportunity to contribute to this important initiative. AVIVA WEEK 2024 has not only deepened my understanding of congenital abnormalities but has also reinforced my commitment to ensuring that every child has access to the quality care they need to thrive.
