PhD Completed! Officially Dr. Stephen Kome

Open Dreams

I am thrilled to announce that I successfully defended my Ph.D. in Infrastructure and Transportation at Sapienza University of Rome this January 2025!

Reflecting on my journey, I am grateful for the incredible support I received along the way. Hard work, resilience, and a remarkable team of supervisors (Pr. Luca Persia, Dr. Davide Shingo, and Dr. Said Dahdah) task leaders, mentors, friends, and family made this achievement possible.

As I look at the quality and quantity of my research, I feel a deep sense of elation—but I am also humbled, knowing there is always room for further improvement. My focus on speed management is not just academic; I am confident it will drive meaningful policy changes that can save lives, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance traffic efficiency.

Throughout this journey, I’ve been honored to receive encouragement like "research tiger," "Mr. Speedy," and "One of my best Ph.D. students." These affirmations fueled my passion and taught me a vital lesson: always recognize and encourage the efforts of others. It inspires them to strive for excellence.

This accomplishment is a collective effort, and I owe immense gratitude to everyone who supported me—from my parents to my primary school teachers and my dedicated supervisors.

Looking ahead, I am determined to bridge the gap between academia and real-world practice. My goal is to leverage my knowledge to tackle the pressing issues faced by countries, particularly in developing regions, helping them leapfrog to safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems.

I conclude this chapter with heartfelt thanks to God Almighty for all the blessings that have guided me on this journey.

Here’s to new beginnings and making a positive impact!
